Hello pinball friends,

It is with deep sorrow that I report the passing of Wayne Neyens, former Gottlieb pinball designer.

He passed away in hospice on July 30, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was 104.

Wayne designed many well-known EM pinball machines for Gottlieb from 1949 to 1976. We list them here:

https://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?searchtype=...=checked&puid=4

He very much wanted to reach his 104th birthday which was July 29th. And he did.

Wayne was a very nice man and had many pinball friends.

Thank you,

Jay

As a result of mandatory evacuation due to multiple expected levee breaches in Houston, the IPDB will be offline for an estimated minimum five days.

Email service to and from the IPDB editors is unavailable during this time.

Hola pepe trenero,

www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=6408&picno=69425
www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=6408&picno=69426

www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=6407

Gracias. ¿Qué es ese documento? ¿Es una tarjeta de visita?

Hello,

Here are pictures of "Challenge Round" temporarily for sale in Florida, USA:

https://us.letgo.com/en/i/vintage-pinball-...de-0b9b50925a79

The card holder indicates "Hispamatic, s.a."

I have never heard of this manufacturer before.

Does anybody have information about Hispamatic?

Thank you,

Jay

Hola,

Please allow me to explain our policy regarding how images are obtained for the IPDB. In the USA, photographic images are considered by law to be artistic compositions and therefore have automatic copyright given to the photographer. Copyright is an important and sensitive issue to many people in the USA and, to respect that, the IPDB asks for a license to be able to show the images on our website. This is the "permission" for which I am well-known to require. Certainly each country has copyright laws of their own. We respect copyright holders in all countries.

The IPDB is a highly visible site and this puts it on our shoulders to work hard to obey matters of copyright for everyone. For instance, I would be unable to arbitrarily show pictures from a pinball book on our site. The author would not like if we did this and we would be contacted about it. In addition, I know many of the pinball authors personally and relationships would be damaged. You may already know that the IPDB had received a "Cease and Desist" from Gottlieb LLC and that is why we can no longer show Gottlieb-branded manuals and schematics. Although the Williams pinball company closed in 1999, their copyrights and assets were purchased by another party who has advised us of what we can show and what we cannot show on the IPDB. As you may surmise, our website's popularity is well-noticed by those people who have invested money in pinball assets. There may be extra work involved for us, but we love the hobby of pinball so we cheerfully operate the site under the reality of these several restrictions.

Many users of the IPDB who see a pinball machine on a website like ebay or milanuncios and who think the IPDB can benefit from those pictures will email me and provide the URL where the pictures were seen. I receive these type of emails regularly. Then, I contact the seller to seek permission to show the pictures on our site. This idea has been very successful. If you choose to try it, please place in the email Subject line the name of the machine and the manufacturer. Because I receive many emails every week, also include the word "ebay" or "milanuncios" in the Subject so I will know the email is time-sensitive and I will open it right away.

With regards to the Fantasy game, our listing no doubt has errors and I am happy to correct what I know to correct. Some of our information is very old and was provided by people who are no longer available. Tonight I found another website that has two listings for Fantasy, one by FAER and one by Talleres del Llobregat so maybe they know something I do not. We try to be methodical. I will have to investigate the possibility that instead of correcting the FAER listing, I would add a new listing for Talleres del Llobregat. I welcome any information to clarify the possible discrepancies. Please do not hesitate to write me. If I receive emails in a language other than English, we use Google Translate and so far everybody has had a good time!

Thank you for this opportunity to explain the reasoning behind "permission", one of our most misunderstood policies at the IPDB. We continue to work hard to maintain a website trusted by everyone.

Gracias,

Jay

I completely agree! Thank you for permission to have them as needed.

Muchas gracias.

Jay

*******

Toni, thank you very much for posting those nice, legible images! It allowed me to create a new listing on the IPDB for Nairobi and to update other listings. What you also have shown me is that the list on your page 24 is likely an ongoing feature in the magazine, perhaps spanning several issues. That would make sense, wouldn't it?

It would be nice to gather such lists (and their associated magazine covers with issue dates) from surviving issues of Automatico Español if only to assist in determining or validating dates of pinball manufacture. Even better, I suggest, is to eventually place scans of each issue in its entirety in an online location for easy access. Of course, I do not know how large each issue is, to understand how large of a suggestion I am making of those who read this thread now and in the future. Perhaps there already is an online place where these issues are found but I am unaware? If there is no preferred Spanish-language website for such a repository, maybe I can twist the arm of my webmaster to create a space on the IPDB to host them.

If anyone does scan an entire issue for me, my address is jay-at-ipdb-dot-org. Any scanning of selected pages would probably work quite well to post in this thread, if preferred, and I will check back periodically. The title of this thread is easy for me to find.

An additional thing I like to do is add to the IPDB listings the price of a game at the time the game was new, when I have supporting documentation. The lists in this magazine help me do that for the Spanish games. Now all I need to do is discover an online currency converter that can convert pesetas to USA dollars for years in the 1960's so I can understand those prices!

Thank you,

Jay

Hola,

Jay

Hello,

I have asked a friend to translate this message for me.

Can anyone please direct me to someone who owns the specific issue of Automatico Español that has this price list on Page 10?

Perhaps the image is recent enough that its photographer is known? I seek to confirm the month and year of that issue. I understand the year may be 1967 but I hope to positively confirm both month and year, if I can. Ideally, a scan of the cover page of that issue would be great.

I am curious, too, does any one person collect many issues of that magazine, or is it simply from too long ago to have survived in quantity?

Thank you for any help.

Hola, amigos. Gracias, Jay
